Olena Tokar was born in the Ukraine in 1987. She studied singing at the College of Culture and Artin Lugansk (Ukraine) from 2000 to 2006, and participated actively in that city’s cultural life. In 2006 Olena Tokar was admitted to the Ukrainian Tchaikovsky National Academy of Musicin Kiev, where her teachers were Z. Buzina and E. Kolosova. Since 2010 she has been a member of Professor Regina Werner-Dietrich's class at the University of Music and Theatre „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig, where she joined the prestigious Master Class programme in 2013.
Olena Tokar has won numerous prizes in renowned competitions: In 2008, she won the Grand Prix in the most prestigious singing competition of the Ukraine, the Kiev International Boris Gmyria Competition. In 2010, she was a finalist in the Ferruccio Tagliavini International Competition for Opera Singers in Deutschlandsberg (Austria); in 2012, she was a finalist, inthe Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition, Barcelona. In the same year, she won the First Prizes both in the Lions Club Leipzig’s Lortzing Competition at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig and in the renowned 61th ARD International Music Competition in Munich. In 2013, she was voted one of the five best singers in the Cardiff BBC Singer of the World Competition in the Opera and Song categories.
